You could buy a combo with a dozen amp sounds plus built-in effects for less than the price of a single module. Unfortunate timing because modeling was making great strides. In 2002 they both introduced power amp heads and a few power amp combos with slots for the modules, and they both made modules. When Egnater started developing his modular system, he realized that having another company also making compatible pieces would increase the chances of the system being successful so he collaborated with Randall. Then a few years later he discontinued them, leaving a lot of owners with dead amps and good preamp modules they couldn't use with anything else. Unfortunately they weren't reliable and he hadn't set up much of a service network. Duncan tried a similar idea in the '80s with his "Convertible" series of amps. ![]()
